The story
Mngqithi is back in the coaching game just three months after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns and has made a bright start in his first two games.
The experienced coach, who was replaced by Miguel Cardoso during a major reshuffle of Sundowns' technical team in December 2024, returned to his home province of KwaZulu-Natal to take charge of Arrows for a third time.
Abafana Bes'thende registered their first win under Mngqithi after overcoming Polokwane City 1-0 on Wednesday, following up a positive draw against the 53-year-old's ex-club, Mamelodi Sundowns, 1-1 last week.
Mngqithi has a deep connection with Arrows, the club where he began his professional coaching career, and still holds some of the players from his first spell in high regard.
During a 'This or That' challenge, where he was asked to choose between two players he had either coached or admired, Mngqithi picked several of his former Arrows players over some of the stars he worked with at Sundowns.
Among the names mentioned were Sakhile Mhlangu, his current assistant Kagisho Dikgacoi, the late Joseph Henyekane and his brother Richard, Mzuvukile Tom, Siyabonga Sangweni, Helton Da Rocha, Lucky Sibeko, Kagiso Senamela, Thanduyise Khuboni, Njabulo Manqana, Thokozani Mshengu, and Papi Zothwane.
Mngqithi picked Mahlangu over Khuliso Mudau, Zothwane over Teko Modise, Richard Henyekane over Peter Shalulile, and Dikgacoi over Hlompho Kekana among other selections.
