We don't know whether we feel sorry for them, or whether we should laugh at the matter, but losing a tooth in a knock must be unbearably painful. Strangely, this is not as unusual as you would think...
We've heard about players leaving their hearts on the pitch, but here are players who've left their teeth behind!
Peter Crouch
In 2012, the lanky forward came up against Fabricio Colloccini, who isn't afraid to throw his arms around while he's in their air. Crouch ended up losing a tooth in one of their aerial battles. He was seen getting treatment for a bloody mouth, but he moved on pretty quickly after the traumatic ordeal.
Mikel Arteta
Against Hull last season, where Arsenal won 3-0, the Gunners skipper was seen holding his hand over his mouth, before he visibly spat out a loose tooth. He collided with George Boyd, whose elbow connected with the Spaniards mouth. Not a sight any Gooner wants to see!
Gaspar Iniguez
In an attempt to put an end to his opponent's mesmerising run, Iniquez jumped in head first for the ball while the attacker was running at great pace. A very sad day for the Argentinos Juniors player, as he lost three front teeth! To add insult to obvious injury, he got a yellow card!
Ernst Middendorp
Not only was he heard swearing on national television before, but once, his dentures came flying from his mouth and hit the deck! This is something that Mzanzi's fans haven't let go of, and it will be incredibly hard for the German to live this one down.
Moeneeb Josephs
The former Bafana international and current Wits University, also had his dentures fall out in a match when he was still at Ajax Cape Town, the club he served for seven years.
Can you name any other embarrassing moments you've seen happen on the field?
