African Chief Reveals Why Morocco Beat SA To Host New HQ

Hersi Said, the chairman of Young Africans and president of the African Club Association (ACA), has explained why Morocco was chosen over nations such as South Africa to host the headquarters of CAF's new organisation.

In November 2023, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the launch of the ACA, an entity established to protect and promote the interests of clubs across the continent.

One of the first priorities for the ACA was to determine where its headquarters would be located. Last year, the organisation's vice-president and Kaizer Chiefs marketing director, Jessica Motaung, revealed that three nations were in contention: Morocco, South Africa, and Algeria.

Ultimately, Morocco was selected as the home of the African clubs' governing body. Speaking to the media, Said elaborated on the reasons behind the decision.

"When we announced our intention to establish a headquarters for the association in Africa, we gave the opportunity to all interested countries to submit their applications. After that, we contacted those countries, and some of them invited the board members to visit their countries and evaluate their capabilities," the Tanzanian chief said, as per El Botola.

"We visited the candidate countries and evaluated them based on criteria that included infrastructure, government support, football environment, economic and security stability. Morocco excelled in all of these criteria, which made it the best choice.

"Choosing Morocco was not a coincidence, but rather the result of a precise and comprehensive process during which Morocco proved to be the ideal destination to host the headquarters of the African Clubs Association."
