On 27 January, 24 African nations will find out their fate regarding the biggest football prize in Africa at the end of the year. The draw for the latest AFCON will be conducted in Rabat, and given the events of the last iteration of the tournament, there will be high expectations placed on Morocco.
Prior to the commencement of the last showpiece in Ivory Coast, Dr Patrice Motsepe stated that the 2023 version of the competition would be the best in its history. Indeed, it was, with the AFCON featuring the most goals scored and generating the most revenue to date.
The South African executive is now confident that the upcoming edition of the continental spectacle can exceed the tremendous standards set by the Ivorians.
"The next edition of the AFCON will be the most beautiful in history, a real miracle," the former Mamelodi Sundowns chairman said, as per Kooora.
"Let me convey to Africa this great optimism, after I have witnessed a huge boom in infrastructure and sports facilities.
"Many thanks to King Mohammed VI for the support and efforts he is making, which have been reflected in the image of Africa.
"Every African will be happy to be here in Morocco, given the generous hospitality and warm welcome, in addition to the strength of the facilities, just as we are proud when a country like Nigeria or Egypt is at a good level to host any competition."
