On Tuesday, Mamelodi Sundowns appointed Miguel Cardoso as the club's new head coach, replacing Manqoba Mngqithi as part of the technical team changes ahead of their next game in the CAF Champions League against Raja Athletic Club on Sunday.
With the Brazilians having decided on the Portuguese to lead the team going forward in search of better results in the Champions League and in the Betway Premiership, the Siya crew has learnt that Spanish coach Aitor Karanka had also been offered to the club.

Karanka, 51, is currently unattached since parting ways with Israeli outfit Maccabi Tel Aviv last year.
The tactician, who could be best remembered for his spell with English side Middlesbrough, previously also worked at Real Madrid as assistant manager and at Birmingham City, among other clubs.

"Aitor Karanka has had his CV forwarded to Sundowns through South African-based representatives. It's in the past now because Sundowns have since appointed a new coach, but I can confirm that he is one of the coaches whose CVs were forwarded to the club when Manqoba Mngqithi's future came in doubt," said the source.
