According to L'Equipe, the Red Devils have officially accepted OGC Nice's bid to sign Mohamed Abdelmonem, putting an end to their drawn-out pursuit of the Egyptian international.

The deal is also believed to include €1 million (R19.7 million) in add-ons, while the Club of the Century will receive a 10% stake in any future sale for the 25-year-old.

After the Zagazig native joined Ahly in 2022, he has become one of the most prominent defenders on the African continent, helping the Egyptian juggernauts win successive CAF Champions League titles in the process.

Now, Abdelmonem looks set to ply his trade in Ligue 1, where he would help Nice build on the success they achieved last season.

The Eaglets finished the 2023/24 season in fifth place, qualifying for the UEFA Europa League in the process, and after losing Jean-Clair Todibo to West Ham United earlier in the transfer window, the French side identified the 25-cap Egypt international as the man best suited to replace him.

Abdelmonem is understood to have put pen to paper on a four-year deal that runs until 2028, and is expected to make his way to the Allianz Riviera once he finalises his visa.

Ahly will now be looking for a replacement of their own, and according to KingFut, their head coach Marcel Koller is keen on acquiring a foreign defender instead of recruiting within Egypt.
