The Moroccan giants suffered a 2-1 defeat to Josef Zinnbauer's Raja Club Athletic in the Morocco Throne Cup final on Monday.
It was yet another narrow miss for Nabi and his side, who also lost out on the Botola Pro 1 title to Raja by a single point on the final day of the league season.
Speaking to reporters after FAR Rabat's latest result, the 58-year-old, who is believed to be close to succeeding Cavin Johnson at Amakhosi, confirmed it is time for him to step aside from his role.
"I want to apologise to the fans of AS FAR for failing in a short space of time," he said in quotes carried by Sports Brief.
"We were not able to make them happy by coming second. This is football.
"It was a very strong season for the players. I was asking a lot from them, and perhaps they were tired.
"It is better for another coach to come with new ideas."
