On Monday, the 15-time UEFA Champions League announced the 25-year-old has committed to a five-year contract in the Spanish capital following his seven-year spell at Paris Saint-Germain. Fans can look forward to Mbappe's official unveiling at the Santiago Bernabeu after the upcoming 2024 UEFA European Championship in Germany ahead of next season.
In joining the LALIGA champions, it is understood Mbappe has agreed to a significant pay cut to complete the switch to his "dream club", though the structuring of the deal he has signed will mean the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner and losing 2022 World Cup finalist will still earn a lot more than any of his teammates in Spain. According to reports, because Real are not paying a transfer fee to PSG, they will give him an enormous signing-on bonus of €150 million (R3 billion), which is expected to be paid to Mbappe in instalments over the course of his stay in Madrid.

Still, when it comes to his weekly and annual salary, the former Monaco is at the top of his new club's highest earners list, with superstar such as Vinicius Junior and Bellingham dropping down the ranking. Though experienced midfielder Luka Modric is third in the ranking, according to Capology, it is believed the Croatian international has agreed to be paid a smaller wage. Modric currently earns €10.5 million (R213.9 million) a year after deductions, but that deal will expire at the end of this month. His long-time midfielder partner Toni Kroos, meanwhile, has dropped out of the list completely after he announced his decision to retire from football after the Euros. The 34-year-old bows out of the game having won an incredible six Champions League titles – one at Bayern Munich and five at Real.
