Zungu: Makhaula Was Determined On Being A Tsotsi

During and after Orlando Pirates' 4-2 win over AmaZulu, midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula took centre stage and caused a stir online!

Check it out.

What's the story?

Orlando Pirates progressed to the Nedbank Cup semi-finals with an emphatic 4-2 triumph over Amazulu in a thrilling Nedbank Cup quarter-final on Saturday.

One particular Pirates player, Makhehlene Makhaula, took centre stage online for his antics during the encounter, one of which the player explained to the club's website.

Makhaula causes online stir

Makhehlene Makhaula is reborn under Jose Riveiro this season after his long injury layoff and was instrumental in his former side's exit from the Nedbank Cup over the weekend.

Makhaula scored Pirates' third in their 4-2 win over AmaZulu in a sold out Moses Mabhida Stadium, ensuring their progress to the Nedbank Cup semi-finals to face Chippa United.

In a pivotal moment, the 34-year-old midfielder  Makhehlene Makhaula was brought down in the box by Taariq Fielies towards the end of the first half, causing the referee to point to the spot.

The penalty was taken by Patrick Maswanganyi and the first 45 minutes between the teams ended all square. Makhaula came under fire for seemingly going down too easily to draw a penalty against the team he used to captain.

Makhaula had more to say in the encounter later on, as he netted in the 82nd minute to all but confirm the win for the Sea Robbers.

To celebrate the goal, Makhaula sprinted the length of the pitch to embrace goalkeeper Sipho Chaine, only to be swiftly substituted due to exhaustion afterwards in what Pirates have described as a "heartwarming and comical" moment.

Makhaula shared the backstory of his celebration with Chaine on orlandopiratesfc.com: "Before the game, Chaine came to me and made a bold prediction that I would score. At the time, I didn't take it seriously, considering I hadn't scored in over eight years."

"So, when the moment arrived, the first person that came to mind was Chaine. I sprinted so hard but my body to betray me," he told his club's media team.

Here's how social media reacted to Makhaula earning a penalty for Pirates and getting his first goal since joining them from Usuthu including a strong comment from Manzini Zungu, who was AmaZulu's director in the past.
