The South African football world was rocked by the news of the untimely passing of central defender, Luke Fleurs, on Wednesday evening.
Fleurs was reportedly gunned down during a hijacking incident in Johannesburg last night, with his club Kaizer Chiefs confirmed the news of his passing on Twitter/X this morning.

Kaizer Chiefs, SuperSport United and the general SA football fraternity is mourning the loss of talented defender Luke Fleurs, who lost his life in a botched hijacking yesterday.
Despite the news doing the rounds late last night, Fleurs' club Chiefs confirmed the youngster's passing this morning, with ex-Matsatsantsa star tragically losing his life at the ripe age of 24.
Fleurs' peers ranging from his ex-SuperSport United teammates to his current colleagues at Amakhosi all took to social media platforms like Instagram to pay homage to Fleurs, who was affectionately known as "Pelas".

Fleurs joined Chiefs as a free agent in October having been released by previous club SuperSport United in September. He made p70 appearance for SuperSport, whom he joined from first-division Ubuntu FC in 2018.

He was named 2021/22 PSL Young Player of the Season and earned himself a Bafana Bafana call-up during the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, without making an appearance.
