Insider: How Pule Could Emulate Saleng

Orlando Pirates star Vincent Pule will be hoping to emulate his teammate Monnapule Saleng as he looks to make a strong comeback, and that's an indication given by those close to the club.

Pule made his long-awaited return to the Buccaneers' line-up though as a substitute in the 1-1 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns in February.

Prior to that, the 32-year-old had a difficult season due to injury that delayed his progress at the Soweto giants although he did feature against Stellenbosch FC in the last game of 2023.

In the first half of the season, the experienced winger made seven appearances in the league with only three starts.

The attack-minded player has been working hard in training to increase his chances of more game time for a good finish to the season.

The ex-Bidvest Wits star came on as a substitute in the Nedbank Cup Last 32 match against third tier outfit Crystal Lake in February and appeared to have regained his confidence and fitness.

Following Saleng's return with a bang starting in the Soweto derby where he scored two goals, as well as another sublime performance in the Nedbank Cup Last 16 against Hungry Lions, Pule could be the next player to rise when he gets his opportunity, according to well-placed sources.

"The guy is working hard, and he is just waiting for his chance. More game time is all that he needs, otherwise he remains a top player and a very humble guy. You can expect him to feature more after the international break and you can expect improved performances from him like what Saleng did before the break," said the source.

In July last year, it was confirmed by Pirates that Pule signed a two-year contract extension to keep him at the club until at least 2025 plus an option to further extend his deal for one more year.
