With Jurgen Klopp stepping down as Liverpool manager at the end of the season, the Reds have reportedly made contact with a potential replacement for the German.

Towards the end of January, the 56-year-old surprised the footballing world when he announced this would be his final campaign in charge of the six-time UEFA Champions League winners.
Klopp admitted he had communicated his decision to the club in November last year, and said he is looking to take a break from the sport to see if he misses the day-to-day workings of being a manager.
Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso has since emerged as a serious candidate for the soon-to-be vacant role, having impressed since he joined the German giants in October 2022.
The Spaniard, who spent five years at Liverpool between 2004 and 2009 during his playing days, has his side sitting first in the Bundesliga, two points above their opponents this weekend, Bayern Munich.
According to Foot Mercato, the Reds have already been in touch with Alonso amid reports there is a clause in his contract that expires in 2026, allowing him to leave Die Werkself for one of his former sides in 2024.
Leverkusen SEO Fernando Carro has, however, denied that such a clause exists, but did state that the club would not force him to remain at the BayArena if he wished for a change.

Alonso made 210 appearances across all competitions for Liverpool, contributing to 38 goals and winning four trophies, including the UEFA Champions League trophy in Istanbul in 2005.
