On 15 September, CAF Champions League holders Al Ahly were looking to extend their record for the most Super Cup titles when they took on CAF Confederation Cup winners and Super Cup debutants USM Alger in Saudi Arabia.

While the Red Devils may have been heavily favoured going into the encounter, it was the Algerian side who emerged triumphant as they won their first Super Cup.

Despite their lost, though, Ahly were expected to be given prize money for being runners-up in the tournament.

According to Yallakora, an executive at the club has disclosed that CAF have not yet paid them their fee, compensation which was expected to already have been given on 1 October.

African football's governing body had increased the prize money involved in the competition, with the winners now expected to receive $500 000 (R9.4 million), while the second-placed team gets $250 000 (R4.7 million).

The same report claims that the Egyptian giants have made an enquiry as to when they will receive the money owed to them as they have urgent obligations to attend to.
