Despite having been Chelsea manager just last season, reports suggest that Thomas Tuchel is prepared to become the head coach of one of the Blues' bitter rivals.
Real Make Big Kylian Mbappe U-Turn?
Tuchel has been out of work since being shown the door at Stamford Bridge in September 2022, but according to the Evening Standard, he is ready to return to the dugout, with Tottenham Hotspur being one of the sides he would consider managing should current Lilywhites boss Antonio Conte leave his post.
The Italian has struggled to get Spurs playing consistently recently, winning only one of their past four league matches since returning from the 2022 FIFA World Cup hiatus.
Their most recent defeat to north London rivals Arsenal left Conte's men 14 points adrift of the log leaders, and with the 53-year-old's contract set to expire at the end of the season, there are doubts as to whether or not there is a willingness from the former Italy midfielder to continue as Spurs manager.
While the club does have an option to extend for a further 12 months, the opportunity to appoint a tactician with the stature of Tuchel may prove appealing to Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, with the German tactician having won the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League with Chelsea.
Should he replace Conte in the English capital, Tuchel would become the fifth former Blues boss Levy appoints as head coach after Glen Hoddle, Andre Villas-Boas, Jose Mourinho and Conte.
Ten Hag Reacts To Casemiro Suspension
The same report suggests that Tuchel enjoyed London life and was willing to take on the England national team head coaching role, but the Football Association opted to extend Gareth Southgate's contract instead.
The 49-year-old is currently learning Spanish, perhaps an indication that he may be interested in a move to LaLiga as well, so if eight-time FA Cup winners are to court him, they should perhaps expedite the process.
