Having retired just two months ago, reports suggest that Barcelona legend Gerard Pique is looking to come out of retirement to play for the team that he owns.
Ronaldo To Make Shock UEFA Champions League Return?
Having received a rousing farewell from the Barca faithful when the Catalans defeated Almeria 2-0 in what was thought to be his final appearance on a football pitch, the world may yet see Pique on the field of play once again.
The four-time UEFA Champions League winner bid an emotional farewell to the beautiful game in November 2022, but according to Relevo, the 35-year-old central defender wants to come back and play for the team he owns, FC Andorra.
The Spaniard's company Kosmos Holdings owns the Segunda Division side, and Pique would like to sign himself for a stint with Eder Sarabia's men.
While a deal is feasible, there are economic impediments that could potentially stop the 2010 FIFA World Cup winner from signing with the side.
Due to LaLiga's strict economic laws, Pique's potential salary will have to be vetted by the LaLiga Valuation Committee.
Before his departure from the Blaugrana, the defender was one of the club's highest earners, raking in about €30 million (R535 million) a year, and under the league's regulations, FC Andorra cannot pay him anywhere near such figures.
The committee will take a look at Pique's previous contracts and matches played to determine whether or not the former Spain international will be able to sign under the club's salary cap.
Chelsea To Hijack Deal For Arsenal Target?
The same report suggests that Andorra have a salary cap of €6.5 million (R15 million), but because the former Manchester United man was one of the highest earners at Barca, the club would have to increase its revenue almost immediately to make a deal happen without any hinderance.
