Over the last month of the Betway Premiership, several players raised their hands to be counted among the best, with the League expected to announce top performers who will be crowned Player of the Month and Coach of the Month for April/May.
Sekhukhune United have been enjoying a new lease on life since the arrival of Bafana Bafana legend, Eric Tinkler. This month, they played three league matches, winning two and drawing one. Babina Noko scored five goals in the process and conceded just two. They have reclaimed their third spot on the log with 41 points from 24 matches. United are three points ahead of Stellenbosch FC who still have a game in hand as they, just like Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, spent most of the month involved in CAF inter-club competitions.
AmaZulu FC will feel they could have had a better month than collecting six out of possible nine points on offer. Coach Arthur Zwane’s charges beat their neighbours, Richards Bay FC and Golden Arrows by 1-0 margins and lost to Stellenbosch in the three games that they played.
TS Galaxy had a chance to climb up the log standings as they had three league matches to play, with nine points to fight for. Unfortunately for coach Adnan Beganovic’s side, they only managed to get two points from two drawn games against Kaizer Chiefs and Sekhukhune United!
Golden Arrows have endured a stuttering month of April under coach Manqoba Mngqithi. They started the month with goalless draw against Chippa United at Mpumalanga Stadium. They followed that with another drawn game away to Marumo Gallants at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium, playing to a 1-1 draw this time around. As if the draws were not enough, Abafana Be’sthende went on to lose to Usuthu 1-0 in their own back yard at Mpumalanga. That means they only secured two out of a possible nine points.
Players like Keletso Makgalwa, Daniel Msendami, Sirgio Kammies, Chibuike Ohizu and Renaldo Leaner are just some of the players who have raised their hand for recognition with their performances for their respective clubs.
