Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahly maintain their status as the highest ranked side on the African continent – where do the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates feature amongst Africa's best teams?
The International Federation of Football History and Statistics recently released their men's Continental Club Rankings for the year 2022.
The rankings were considered from the period of April 2021 to March 2022.
Unsurprisingly, reigning CAF Champions League winners Al Ahly sit atop standings as they have been for the last few years with the Red Eagles of Cairo dominating both domestic and continental competitions.
The biggest climbers have been Raja Casablanca who were in 10th place in last year's rankings and now find themselves in second place, which is largely down to their CAF Confederations Cup win last season.
From a South African perspective Mamelodi Sundowns have done well to maintain their place in Africa's top 10 ranked teams over the last few years. The latest ranking sees the Brazilians occupy eighth place on the standings.
Orlando Pirates, who reached the quarterfinals of the CAF Confederations Cup last season, are the only other South African side who make the top 20. The Buccaneers sit in 13th place ahead of some perennial giants like TP Mazembe, Zanaco and Esperance.
Kaizer Chiefs, who magnificently managed to reach the CAF Champions League final last season do not feature in the IFFHS's top 20 teams in Africa.
