With Cape Town City interim head coach Muhsin Ertugral ending a six-year wait in active coaching, Soccer Laduma highlights other coaches who took a long gap from head coach duties before returning in recent years.
Ertugral returned on the bench after he was named as interim successor to Eric Tinkler at the Citizens until the end of the season.
The Turkish coach had been the technical assistant for his nation for the past four years, after a near one-year gap since he parted ways with Maritzburg United.

Owen Da Gama has also returned to coach in the PSL after just over three years since he was the head coach of TS Galaxy. Da Gama was last at Sekhukhune United in 2022, although as one of the assistants.
Khabo Zondo also ended a six-year hiatus in 2022, after he was appointed as one of the co-coaches at Royal AM, following his last stint at the same club in 2016 while they were in the National First Division.
Cavin Johnson also had a two-year absence from the bench after he was appointed as the head of technical at Kaizer Chiefs in 2021 but was elevated to interim head coach in 2023.

Stuart Baxter was appointed technical director at Helsingborg after leaving Chiefs in his second spell in 2022 and four months into his office job was catapulted to head coach duties. However, Baxter lasted eight months and is yet to return to active management.
Arthur Zwane was also back in youth coaching after he was relieved from the Amakhosi senior team bench and made a comeback just over a year later as co-coach at AmaZulu.
Ernst Middendorp also became the technical director of Bangkok United in Thailand in 2018 but a year later was headhunted by Chiefs for his second spell in charge.
