Durban City Stay Top, Gabuza Debuts For New Team

Sunday, 12 January

University of Pretoria 1-1 Milford

Former Orlando Pirates striker Thamsanqa Gabuza debuted for University of Pretoria in their 1-1 draw against Milford on Sunday afternoon at ABSA Tuks Stadium.

Tebogo Mohamonyane broke the deadlock for AmaTuks just before the interval but Phakamani Ngxongo levelled matters for Milford late in the game.

The Stallions had to settle for fourth spot in the standings while The Tshwane side were left lying eighth.

Kruger United 1-0 Highbury

Kruger United extended their unbeaten run to eight matches after edging Highbury 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Following a goalless first stanza, Thabo Nkwana broke the deadlock for Kruger just after the hour-Mark.

The win took United up to fifth on the table while Highbury dropped down to 11th.

Saturday, 11 January

JDR Stars 3-3 Baroka

Baroka's four-game winning run came to an end after playing to a draw against JDR Stars in a six-goal thriller on Saturday afternoon at Giant Stadium.

Prince Nxumalo gave JDR an early lead and Baroka quickly equalised on the quarter of an hour.

Kagiso Senamela gave Bakgaga a 2-1 lead on the stroke of half-time, however, Tshepo Mokhabi levelled matters for the Hammerboys.

The Limpopo side went ahead early in the second stanza but Nxumalo rescued a point for Stars and grabbed his brace with seven minutes remaining.

JDR remained in third spot on the log while Baroka found themselves in sixth place.

Venda Football Academy 2-0 Black Leopards

Venda Football Academy boosted their chances of surviving relegation after beating Black Leopards 2-0 in the Limpopo derby on Saturday afternoon.

Prince Rathokoa broke the deadlock for Venda eight minutes before the interval and Lerato Mofokeng sealed the maximum points six minutes before time.

VFA moved off the bottom of the table, up to 15th while Lidoda Duvha settled for ninth spot.

Leruma United 0-1 Orbit College

Promotion-chasing Orbit College returned to winning ways after edging Leruma United 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Orbit retained their second spot in the standings, just three points behind leaders Durban City.

Leruma suffered their fifth consecutive defeat and dropped down to the bottom of the log.

Upington City 0-0 Pretoria Callies

Upington City's winless run stretched to nine games after a goalless draw against Pretoria Callies.

Upington have since dropped down to 12th in the standings, a point and a place above The Romans on the log.

Friday, 10 January

Durban City 4-2 Hungry Lions

Log-leaders Durban City won their fifth game in a row after a come-from-behind 4-2 victory over Hungry Lions on Friday evening at Chatsworth Stadium.

Lions went ahead on 15 minutes and were 2-0 up with 20 minutes to go.

However, Bongumusa Nkosi pulled a goal back for City with 13 minutes left and Samkelo Maseko levelled matters four minutes later.

Ruzaigh Gamidien sent The Team of Choice ahead in the last four minutes and Joslin Kamatuka secured the three points in the last minute.

City opened a three-point lead at the top of the standings while Ditau Dia Rora slipped down to tenth.

Cape Town Spurs 1-0 Casric Stars

Cape Town Spurs had a positive start to the new year after they ended a ten-game winless run with a narrow 1-0 win over Casric Stars on Friday evening at Athlone Stadium.

After a goalless first stanza, Therlo Moosa scored the decisive goal for The Urban Warriors two minutes from the interval.

Ernst Middendorp's charges are placed 14th on the log, one point above the relegation zone while Casric were left lying seventh.
