The legendary Lucas Radebe has opened up on being appointed as the first global ambassador of his former club Leeds United.
Radebe has been honoured time and again for his contribution to Leeds during his playing days, donning the colours of the recently promoted club between 1994 and 2005. After being honoured in different ways in the past, the former Bafana Bafana captain now has the pleasure of being the first global ambassador appointed by the club.

"I think it's a great honour. Being appointed as the first global amassaddor for such a great club goes beyond who I am and what I gave to the club and what the club stands for. Hopefully I embody that. To be honest, this is an achievement where you get recognised for contributing towards the betterment of the community. It came as a surprise because there are greater players than me who were born in Leeds. To be able to be part of the club is amazing," Radebe told media on Wednesday at a CAF event held in Sandton, Johannesburg.
Radebe's duties have not been fully revealed to him as yet, but he expects to represent the club in various parts of the world, ensuring that the story of Leeds is told to the next generation of players and supporters.

"At the moment, we have not met to map out my duties, but obviously it's to represent the club globally, to bring more support to the club and tell the story of the club and players. It's a club that deserves to be in the Premier League. For them, it's to get more players globally, in Africa and Europe."
