The Bull, as Cibi was known in football circles, succumbed to kidney failure after being admitted to hospital, according to a family spokesperson. Cibi's aunt, Zandile Matsuna, confirmed to the Siya crew that the former midfield strongman died at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, after he was reportedly transferred there from Jabulani Hospital.
"He (Joconia Cibi) is no more. He passed away last night at around 10pm. He died of kidney failure. He passed away at Bara (Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital). He was initially admitted to the Jabulani Hospital on the 30th of last month, and was later transferred to Bara.
"I'm his mother's sister, the last born of the family. My name is Zandile. I used to use the Cibi surname but because I'm married my surname has changed and I am now a Matsuna," said Matsuna.
