In This Week’s Edition Of Soccer Laduma

In anticipation of this week’s 1420th edition of Soccer Laduma, we preview some of the features and interviews included. The latest edition will be available at your nearest outlet on Thursday, 17th April 2025.

KAIZER CHIEFS

On Sunday, Kaizer Chiefs pulled off a major shock against Mamelodi Sundowns to reach the Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirates. Despite conceding right before half-time, Amakhosi netted two second-half goals to set up an all too rare showpiece with their Soweto rivals. For the first time in six years, the final will be played at Moses Mabhida Stadium on 10 May. In this feature, we look at the decade-long drought in detail and highlight exactly what is on the line for the Glamour Boys in just under four weeks’ time. We also highlight some key decisions from Nasreddine Nabi on Sunday to get his side over the line.

CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

It’s South Africa versus Egypt in the CAF Champions League semifinals. There’s a whole lot to be excited about Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates taking on the giants of Egyptian football, Al Ahly and Pyramids FC respectively, with the aim of conquering Africa. The first leg matches are set to take place in South Africa before the PSL giants travel to Egypt for the second leg clashes. South Africans are dreaming of an all-PSL final in the CAF Champions League and, looking at the form these clubs have been in, anything is possible. In this preview, former Sundowns and Al Ahly analyst, Musi Matlaba, gives his analysis on all four clubs in the semi-finals.

JAYDEN ADAMS

The last few months have been nothing short of incredible for Jayden Adams. He made the big transfer from Stellenbosch FC to Mamelodi Sundowns and while many were worried that it was not a good move, the 23-year-old is now proving to be a player who coach Miguel Cardoso cannot do without. Not only has he won his place in the starting line-up, but he has convinced Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos to recall him to the national team because it was difficult to leave him out. It’s been quite the journey, and Soccer Laduma spoke to a few individuals to share their thoughts on Adams’ progress.

Also In Issue 1420…

Vela Khumalo

Fresh off a historic qualification for the 2025 FIFA U17 World Cup, South African national U17 head coach Vela Khumalo opens up about the journey, the challenges, and the bright future of domestic youth football. In this frank interview with Soccer Laduma, Khumalo reflects on Amajimbos’ AFCON performance, unpacks the preparation for Qatar 2025, and shares insight into the passion and purpose driving his dual roles as educator and coach.

International Feature

Raphinha has put his initial struggles with FC Barcelona behind him to become one of the world football’s most prolific forwards. The Brazilian is enjoying a standout 2024/25 campaign with the Catalan giants and playing a pivotal role in their bid to capture the club’s third treble. However, his prowess was not always evident in the early stages of his career. In this week’s edition of Soccer Laduma, takes a look at how the skilful winger went from the Portuguese Second Division to a contender for football’s most prestigious individual honour – the Ballon d’Or.

Revolving Column

This week we hear from former South African U20 international Junior Khanye on Amajita’s U20 AFCON qualification.
