Pirates To Offer Bafana Striker Three-Year Contract?

Pirates To Offer Bafana Striker Three-Year Contract?

Orlando Pirates are taking steps to ensure they retain one of their key strikers, the Siya crew has been informed.

The player in question is Evidence Makgopa, whose contract is set to expire in June this year.

Insiders close to the club have indicated that the Buccaneers are set to offer Makgopa a new three-year deal to keep him at the club until June 2028. Despite interest from Europe, Pirates are determined to hold onto the striker.

"His new deal is as good as done. It's another three-year contract with a one-year option. The club believes in him and that's why despite some interest from Europe they could not just left him go. Obviously if it's a new deal, it means it's an improved one. From the information we have, all the involved parties are happy and everything is good for his new deal, " the Siya source stated.

A second insider mentioned that while securing Makgopa is important, the club is still in the market for an additional striker.

"For now, the club is happy with Makgopa and Tshegofatso Mabasa while they are working on the situation with Boitumelo Radiopane and Zakhele Lepasa's future and that's why they are still looking for another striker. It's good that they are keeping Evidence (Makgopa) but they want to have a good variety of strikers to choose from for different competitions and that's their reason for still wanting to sign another striker, " the second source observed.

Makgopa joined the Buccaneers from Baroka FC in 2022, initially signing a three-year contract set to expire this June. This season, the 24-year-old striker has played in a fair amount of games. When available, he has been a regular member of Hugo Broos' Bafana Bafana squad.

Soccer Laduma contacted Pirates for comment but the club had not responded by the time this report was published.
