DStv Premiership Report: Cape Town City v Black Leopards 02 June 2021

Result: Cape Town City 3-1 Black Leopards

Date: 02 June 2021

Venue: Cape Town Stadium

Black Leopards were relegated from the DStv Premiership after succumbing to a 3-1 defeat to Cape Town City at Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Tebogo Makobela came into the Leopards side, while Marc Anderson got his City debut as Bradley Ralani, Thamsanqa Mkhize and Abubaker Mobara also came into the starting line-up.

City had a good chance in the sixth minute. Fagrie Lakay found Mduduzi Mdantsane, who unleashed a powerful effort which was tipped away by Jonas Mendes for a corner.

Leopards got the opening goal on 15 minutes as Thato Mokeke gave away a free-kick, which was delivered into the box by Tumelo Khutlang and Khomotso Masia headed home.

On the half-hour mark, Craig Martin sent a good cross into the box but it was inches too high for Ralani.

City keeper Marc Anderson pulled off an excellent save to keep his side in the game in the 53rd minute to keep out Sanele Mathenjwa, who got on the end of Ovidy Karuru's cross.

The Citizens equalised in the 57th minute. Mpho Makola, who just this week signed a contract extension at the club, threaded an inch-perfect throughball for Lakay, who slotted the ball calmly past Mendes into the back of the net.

Four minutes later and within moments of coming on, Ajay Ajagun completed a remarkable turnaround when his right-footed shot found the bottom corner after he was assisted by Terrence Mashego.

Ajagun wrapped it up five minutes from time when Tashreeq Morris laid the ball off to the Nigerian, who buried the ball into the bottom right corner to complete his brace as City seal a top-eight finish.
