Amajita started their U20 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a 1-0 defeat to hosts Egypt on Sunday night.
Coach Raymond Mdaka was able to call upon some exciting names as Mfundo Vilakazi, Kutlwano Letlhaku and Langelihle Phile joined Jody Ahshene in the attack.
There was a lively tempo to the first half, with the South Africans causing a bit of problems but they were unable to convert that dominance into goals.
The South Africans were forced into a change ten minutes after the halftime break, as captain Tiwani was stretchered off after landing awkwardly.
Amajita nearly broke the deadlock on 60 minutes when Ahshene was sent through on goal, but the striker's powerful strike was pushed onto the upright by the Egyptian goalkeeper.
The hosts took the lead two minutes later as Mohamed Abdalla managed to race clear on goal before showing the composure to fire into the far corner with a lovely low strike.
The woodwork frustrated South Africa once again after 67 minutes as Letlhaku latched onto a long-ball over the top and controlled well before seeing his volley crash against the upright with the goalkeeper well-beaten.
Mdaka's charges pushed numbers forward in search of the equaliser, but the Egyptians remained resolute and held out for maximum points in their opening game of the competition.
