Despite their 3-0 loss to Chippa United last Saturday, Kaizer Chiefs head coach Steve Komphela has not lost faith and believes that the Glamour boys are "mathematically" still in the title race.
Amakhosi's loss to the Chilli Boys means they are now 10 points adrift of log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. The Phefeni Boys have 12 points left to play for, and can only accrue up to 51 points. So, should Masandawana win their next league match, they would have accumulated 52 points, and Komphela's charges will officially be out of the race.
Supporters Club members have reacted to the coach's statement, with some suggesting that "Jola" should rather start preparing for the next campaign.
"Chiefs should start planning for next season. This season is all over for them. Without the support of management, the technical team and the supporters, the players will never recover confidence from the losses to Pirates and Chippa." – Mokokomane
"That's a dream, we were crashed out the day we lost 3-1 to Pirates, now Steve is just dreaming and we're still going to lose two and draw one and win one." – MSANDROTIC
"Komphela is burning his bridges, trust me. Other PSL teams are watching him destroy Chiefs; after he is done, no team will want him because they know what damage he can do to a good team." – Pirates_999
"Steve, just forget about the league. Your team is very poor and your tactics are helpless. Kaizer Chiefs are an average team now, only its brand is big." – Fakugezi
"Komphela thinks Chiefs are supported by under 12 kids who believe everything told by an elder. He is taking us for a ride." – Xolisa{Khosificated2}
