Orlando Pirates will come up against a lower league side for the third time in the Nedbank Cup when they visit Dondol Stars in the quarter-finals on Saturday afternoon.

Nedbank Cup

Teams: Dondol Stars v Orlando Pirates

Date: 15 April 2023

Venue: New Peter Mokaba Stadium

Time: 15h00

Pirates beat Motsepe Foundation Championship side All Stars 2-0 in the first round and needed extra-time to edge Venda Football Academy 2-1 from the same division in the round of 16.

The Buccaneers carried that form into the league after winning three games in a row and occupy second position on the table in their bid to qualify for the CAF Champions League.

Dondol, a side from the ABC Motsepe League, on the other hand, have gone against all odds as they claimed two major upsets after knocking out SuperSport United 2-1 in the last 32 and beat AmaZulu on penalties after a 1-1 draw in extra-time in the last 16.

Stars are currently top of the Gauteng third-tier league, with a nine-point lead, surpassing big sides in the league such as Highlands Park, Jomo Cosmo and Wits University.

Pirates will also be out to avoid another embarrassment against a ABC Motsepe League side, as fans still fondly remember the 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Maluti FET College in 2013.

Here's how they line up:
