What Winning The Cup Can Do For Chiefs In The League

A former Kaizer Chiefs defender believes success in the Carling Knockout could just be what the team needs to get themselves into a position of fighting for league honours.

Amakhosi have had a difficult start to the league, dropping eight points in their first five matches of the campaign, with many feeling like they are not in the race for the Betway Premiership title, though it's too early in the campaign to predict.

They do, however, have a shot at glory in the Carling Knockout and this weekend's quarter-final clash against Mamelodi Sundowns has the potential to be the turning point for the club.

The clubs meet for a second time this season at FNB Stadium tomorrow, after Sundowns came from behind to beat Amakhosi in the league.

"They have only dropped a few points and the league is a marathon. They still have a chance and they are still in the race. They can recover because some of the teams will still drop points. And winning a tournament like the Carling Knockout will be a good boost. I believe they have been playing good football and we need to give them credit," Tsotetsi said to the Siya crew.

"When they go forward, you can see their intentions. At times, they miss chances and those are good signs. If you are missing chances, that means you are creating chances. But I think they need to have that connection at the back so that they can be solid. Winning silverware in the cabinet will give them a big boost in the league and it will be good for the coach."

The Premier Soccer League, meanwhile, has confirmed that clash between Chiefs and Sundowns is sold out.
