Tinkler Cautious Of Chiefs Attack

Kaizer Chiefs visit Cape Town City this weekend in the return to domestic action in the DStv Premiership and Citizens coach Eric Tinkler is aware of the threat posed by Amakhosi.

Tinkler, speaking to the media during a press conference ahead of the clash, explained that the Citizens will be cautious, and are mindful of the attacking prowess of their opponents under coach Cavin Johnson.

"I think they are still a team that's extremely dangerous on the counter-attack. They have a lot of speed upfront so they will look to utilise and play with that speed," Tinkler said to journalists this week.

"But I think certain areas of this game, they still have their issues that we'll need to exploit, but the threat upfront is a massive threat.

"The speed that they have and they seem to utilise more effectively right now than at the beginning of the season because they play more counter-attack football," added the former Bafana Bafana ace.

Chiefs have tackled the Citizens twice this season, with the Amakhosi successful in the MTN8 before Tinkler's men exerted revenge.

"They are a team that looks to play through the phases, but they are a team that play pretty direct with those in behind, so we've got to make sure we deal with that and be wary of that.

"But for me, it's about us now. I think we've spent too much time worrying about the opposition than worrying about ourselves," Tinkler added.

Goalkeeper Darren Keet believes playing Amakhosi at the Athlone Stadium once more just as they did in the MTN8 won't have any special bearing, but can play them anywhere.

I think we can play them at Hartleyvale if we want to, on any given day, we should be able to give our best and our best should be good enough and let's hope it's good enough this weekend," Keet said, speaking to journalists.

Both teams were disappointing in their last encounters, with Chiefs going down to Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby and City falling short against Royal AM.

The clash gets underway on Saturday at 15:30.
