South African football has been rocked by tragedy following the death of a soccer player, which according to insiders privy to information, the incident took place during a Motsepe Foundation Championship fixture between Durban City and Milford FC at Chatsworth Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The match, which held significant weight in the promotion race, was suspended midway through under distressing circumstances, with those in attendance said to be witnessing a deeply emotional and unsettling scene unfold on the pitch.

Although details of the outcome remain limited at this stage, it is understood that a player from Durban City FC (identity known to the Siya crew) collapsed during the match and was attended to by medics on the scene.
Siya sources added that there were efforts to revive the player. Out of respect for the family and the ongoing official procedures, the identity of the player has not been released.
Milford and the PSL have not made an official statement on the incident at the time this report was published.
Durban City, who are chasing promotion to the Betway Premiership, issued a brief statement confirming the suspension of the match, urging for patience and privacy during this difficult time:

Durban City have since released a statement, confirming that the player who passed away is Sinamandla Zondi.
