As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, Mbatha has attracted interest from a Championship side, which is now believed to be Cardiff City, according to insiders.
The sources added that the former Premiership side has inquired about the former SuperSport United midfielder, and that things are looking promising.
"Yes, the club from England interested in Thalente (Mbatha) is Cardiff City. They have shown interest and now it's all about following the right procedures when you are interested in a player or you want a player," said the Siya source.
"Apparently their scouts were there is Spain during the off season and they have followed up his progress in the few games so far this season and they are impressed. All Pirates are believed to be waiting for is an official approach from Cardiff City," the source added.

A second source stated that his call-up to Bafana Bafana will boost his chances of moving to England, as at times they look at national team caps.
"His hard work and talent is working out for him now. It's only a half season at Pirates and there is already interest from English Championship side Cardiff City. That shows his talent and quality and his Bafana Bafana call-up is boosting those chances of moving to Europe. It's really good for him and the interest has come at the right time," the second source stated.
Mbatha joined Pirates in January this year from SuperSport United where he didn't have much game time. The Buccaneers swooped in, and he has since become a household name in the Pirates midfield, earning him a Bafana Bafana call-up from Hugo Broos.
Soccer Laduma contacted Pirates for comment but the club had not responded by the time this report was published.
