Insiders: How Pirates Plan To Strengthen Their Defence

Siya sources have indicated that Pirates are believed to have reignited their interest in Stellenbosch FC defender Thabo Moloisane.

The sources have added that Bucs may now be looking at going all out for Moloisane, who has been on their radar for some time, as reported by Soccer Laduma earlier this year.

Pirates are aware that it won't be easy to acquire the former Mamelodi Sundowns development product, but they can give it their best shot to have him by January.

"The club is working hard to find at least a central defender to be as backup or cover in case of injuries and suspensions. The team feels that with injuries in central defence, they need a player like Thabo Moloisane and that's why they have reignited their interest in him again. Obviously, for now, that could only happen in January. But, yet, the interest has always been there and now it's just a revisit of that interest," the Siya source stated.

A second insider stated that Pirates might consider other strategies to acquire Moloisane from Stellenbosch FC, considering that nothing materialised last January.

"When they were getting (Deano) van Rooyen from Stellenbosch they wanted to involve a player exchange and it didn't go that way so maybe now they would negotiate for that to have Moloisane at least in January. But it's not a done deal yet. It's just interest from Pirates at the moment, as they want to boost their defence," the second source observed.

Last season, the 25-year-old played consistently for Stellies. Soccer Laduma contacted Stellenbosch FC for comment, but there was no response at the time of publishing this story.

Pirates are navigating a challenging season with multiple competitions, particularly the addition of the Caf Champions League, and with new injury concerns, securing a player like Moloisane could provide much-needed depth and stability to their defence. Fans will be watching closely to see if the club can finalise a crucial signing by January.
