There are no guarantees yet that SuperSport United will be able to hold on to goalkeeper Ricardo Goss at the end of the season with the player's two-year loan deal from Mamelodi Sundowns coming to an end.
For that reason, the Siya crew understands that Matsatsantsa have begun a wider search to find a permanent replacement. Information made available is that the club's chief scout, Paul Matthews, has already sent out feelers in the Premier Soccer League and on the continent to find a goal minder for the long-term.
Goss moved to the crosstown rivals following a frustrating spell at Chloorkop after joining them from the now-defunct Bidvest Wits in 2020 with the promise that he would take over from veterans Denis Onyango and Kennedy Mweene.
But he instead found himself stranded and watching from the sidelines most of the time, while the two senior keepers – as well as Reyaad Pieterse – played ahead of him for two years. Sundowns then made a statement by signing Bafana Bafana first-choice Ronwen Williams in July last year, paving the way for Goss to go in the opposite direction, albeit on a loan deal.
As things stand, Goss could be heading back as Mweene has retired and Onyango is edging closer to hanging up his gloves too. Soccer Laduma has been led to believe SuperSport has invited goalies from their DStv Diski Challenge team, but given the club is on the hunt for an established No.1, the first preference is to recruit someone more experienced.
