The Premier Soccer League transfer window slammed shut late last month without any major surprises, but Siya sources have informed this publication that it wasn't for a lack of trying by some clubs.
News reaching Soccer Laduma is that AmaZulu FC made a late bid to sign midfielder Sammy Seabi from champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
Usuthu were keen to bolster their squad on the back of adding anchorman Ben Motshwari from Orlando Pirates as well as defender Taariq Fielies from Cape Town City in the week of the registration deadline.
But it's understood the Brazilians rejected their advances, insisting that Seabi, who spent the previous two seasons on loan at Chippa United and Sekhukhune United respectively, remained an important part of coach Rulani Mokwena's team.
The lanky midfielder has only played a total nine minutes for Downs so far this season with injuries dealing him a blow as Seabi is currently now in rehab, hoping to bounce back strong to impress the technical team.
Usuthu appeared to have been keen to take the player while he was still on the mend as coach Pablo Franco Martin is continuing to build what he believes will ultimately be a strong and winning side.
However, to what many will find surprising, the DStv Premiership title holders opted against allowing Seabi to leave, even if it were on loan. The 28-year-old, signed from Polokwane City four years ago while Pitso Mosimane was still at the Chloorkop-based outfit, was a key player for Sekhukhune last season during his loan spell – but is yet to have the same impact at Downs.
