Despite Stellenbosch FC announcing a "long-term" contract in their confirmation of Kgaogelo Sekgota's signing earlier this month, the Siya crew understands the winger has actually put pen to paper on a two-year deal.
Sekgota joined Stellies on a free transfer from Kaizer Chiefs following developments that he was not expected to feature much under coach Molefi Ntseki, who took over from Arthur Zwane in the off-season.
The two clubs have a cordial relationship having concluded several deals in the most recent transfer windows, but no money exchanged hands for the former South African junior international to move to the Winelands.
No further details of the deal were revealed by Stellies, with the side coached by Steve Barker only confirming the move after Amakhosi had announced Sekgota would be leaving after his contract was mutually terminated.
It's through Soccer Laduma sources that the information has emerged that while the parties involved may have discussed options beyond the next two years, the player has been registered as having signed until June 2025.
The dreadlocked star has already featured in all three games for Stellenbosch so far in the new campaign and started in their win over SuperSport United to send them to the semifinals of the MTN8 next month. Barker's side will face Orlando Pirates over two legs and the coach has already spoken about how crucial the 26-year-old will be for the team as they target a trophy with a side that has been boosted by several new faces.
