Kaizer Chiefs could miss out in the chase for Chumani Butsaka's signature as Stellenbosch FC are stepping up their pursuit of the midfielder, the Siya crew has been informed.
Butsaka, who finished the 2023/24 season as the captain of the Urban Warriors under Ernst Middendorp, has been one of the sought-after players in Mzansi following his standout performances despite the Cape side's ultimate relegation.

Chiefs and Stellenbosch have been interested in the player, with sources now indicating why the 22-year-old could remain in the Western Cape for the new season if all goes well for Stellies in their pursuit.
"Stellenbosch are planning to come back with an improved offer in their pursuit of Chumani Butsaka. The club is serious in its chase of the player's signature and Spurs aren't ignoring offers for him or any of their players as it is made out to be in the media, but they are expecting offers to be reasonable. Spurs spent so much money in developing these players and it is only fair that they get what is reasonable for their services. We are talking about players who have been with the club since the age of 11 – Chumani, Asanele Velebayi and Rushwin Dortley and have gone on to become the top players that they are now. People on social media can be so mean in discussing these issues whereas they don't know the facts," said the source.

"Stellenbosch has been prepared to pay around R4 million for Chumani, but the initial offer was rejected. The club is keen on improving the offer and that's what they are busy with at the moment. As things stand, Chiefs haven't indicated if they will be making an offer better than that for Chumani, which puts Stellenbosch in the lead for the player's services," the source added.
