Sekhukhune United are expected to exercise their option on Daniel Cardoso's contract to keep him longer at the club. The defender, as he was in the last campaign, has been one of Babina Noko's standout players this season, having taken over the armband as the team's captain.
The 34-year-old featured in every single match for coach Brandon Truter's side last season and was pivotal in helping them reach the Nedbank Cup final, which they narrowly lost to Orlando Pirates.
He has started the current campaign in the same vein. However, injury has seen him miss out on the side's last few matches.
Having joined Sekhukhune last year from Kaizer Chiefs, the veteran was signed on a three-year deal, one of which included a one-year option, which the club are already considering exercising, according to sources.
"With his experience, Cardoso has shown how valuable he is to the team. Even when he is injured, he still leads by example," said a source.
"His contract with the club is up at the season, but there is no pressure as he still has an option for another year, which the club are likely to exercise," the source added.
