Mandla Qhogi's future as an employee of Orlando Pirates has become increasingly in doubt with the club having gone silent regarding their plans. For almost two decades, Qhogi has been a loyal servant of the club, serving as a youth coach and as a scout, as well as contributing in promoting several players to become stars in the senior team.
The mentor had been with the Soweto giants' DStv Diski Challenge team as coach before he was replaced by Bucs' development product and former senior team player Joseph Makhanya this past season.
In the 2022/23 season, Qhogi served as a scout, following the arrival of 'Duku-Duku', as Makhanya is known in football circles. With his contract having expired at the end of June, and with the Houghton-based side quiet about the future, Qhogi might have played his last part at the club, according to insiders.
"Mandla Qhogi is sitting at home and assessing his options. It looks like his time with Pirates has come to an end as his contract has expired and the club hasn't said anything regarding the extension of the deal," a source told the Siya crew.
"He isn't sure of what is happening as the club hasn't said anything or issued an official statement on the parting of ways, and with the new season approaching, he is waiting on offers (in order) to continue with his career elsewhere," added the source.
Notably, Qhogi has been with the club for 18 years, but it now remains to be seen where he'll be headed next.
