The Siya crew recently reported that Pirates as well as Kaizer Chiefs have expressed an interest in the Stellenbosch playmaker.
The Cape winelands outfit opted against exercising the option on the player's contract, making him a free agent after the expiry of his contract on June 30.
Now, the latest update regarding the 27-year-old's future is that Pirates are currently leading the race for his signature.
According to well-placed Siya sources, the Buccaneers have signalled their intent to land the former Baroka man and further strengthen coach Jose Riveiro's side ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Indications are that Mgaga could well end up being a Pirates player in the near future.
The Siya crew understands that Chiefs were keen on the player before he joined Stellies in 2022, though it was thought that coach Steve Barker's side were a better fit for the player at the time.
