Pirates Finding A Solution After Moroccan Interest In Midfielder

Pirates Finding A Solution After Moroccan Interest In Midfielder

Orlando Pirates continue to make significant strides in retaining their key players, with insiders indicating that the club is in advanced negotiations to secure one of their midfielders with a new contract too.

News emerging from the Houghton-based club suggests that midfielder Kabelo Dlamini is next in line, with a proposed new two-year deal, which includes a one-year option.

A Siya source stated that with Dlamini's current contract set to expire in June 2025, the club acted swiftly to try to ensure his future at the club, hence the proposal of a two-year extension with an option for an additional year.

"He is one player that everyone at the club would like to keep and that's why it's not surprising that they are offering him a new two-year deal. Actually it's a trophy year, a straight one until June 2027 but then there is a one-year option on it. That means he could be at the club until June 2028. I can't say it's a done deal yet but at the same time I don't know what can stop it," said the Siya source.

A second insider noted that the club has not dismissed interest from Spanish clubs in Dlamini, following their pre-season activities in July and August. The Siya crew has previously covered the foreign interest in the Bucs player, stemming from the likes of Raja Casablanca.

"First it was Raja Casablanca of Morocco who were interested in him but when they changed their technical team then things changed and then there were two clubs in Spain and the club is aware of that. There is no smoke without fire and because of that they want to keep their player in a safe and secure contractual environment so that no matter what happens he has a contract with the team hence the offer of the two years and one-year option currently on the table," the second insider stated.

The 28-year-old, who had joined Pirates in 2019 from Bloemfontein Celtic, has appeared consistently in Betway Premiership league games this season. Known for his reliability, Dlamini is one of the most dependable substitutes for Pirates.

As Bucs work to solidify Dlamini's future with the club, their proactive approach highlights the importance of maintaining a strong core of players. By offering a comprehensive contract, Pirates aim to fend off external interest and ensure Dlamini remains a key asset in their line-up for years to come.

Soccer Laduma contacted Pirates for comment but no response was received by the time this report was published.
