Following his exit from Kaizer Chiefs at the end of last season, Darrel Matsheke has found a new club and the details of his contract have been revealed.
The central midfielder has joined Stellenbosch FC, as announced by the club on Wednesday morning, after waiting a few months to finally find a new home following his one-year stay with Moroka Swallows.
According to information received by Soccer Laduma, Matsheke has signed a one-year deal with the Winelands outfit, with an option to extend. The player did enough to impress coach Steve Barker and his technical team during an assessment with the club.
While he was in the Birds' nest, the 24-year-old made 19 appearances in all competitions, eight of those coming as a starter, with 11 from the substitutes' bench. He was sent out on loan by the Glamour Boys, with gametime hard to come by, and it was decided that Moroka Swallows, owing to the good relationship between the two clubs, was the ideal destination.
However, upon the expiry of his loan spell, Amakhosi decided against offering him a new contract, bringing an end to his stay at Naturena.
"Darrel adds quality and depth to our midfield positions, specifically as a defensive midfielder. He is technically sound, plays with a lot of energy and intensity, and has the ability to break down attacks, and once he has done that he has the ability to then progress the ball either through the quality of his passing or by carrying the ball. We welcome him to the SFC family and are confident that he will add much value to our squad," said Barker, as quoted by the club's official website.
