The Siya crew has been informed that Stellenbosch FC striker Iqraam Rayners does not have a buy-out clause in his contract with the club, having returned to the Winelands in January.
It's an interesting development for Kaizer Chiefs and other potential suitors as sources have indicated that Amakhosi recently renewed their interest in chasing the goal ace and making him a target in the near future, as reported in Siyagobhoza last week.
Stellies have become accustomed to losing their high-profile players just as they were forced to sell midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa to the Soweto giants for a reported fee in the region of R10 million last week.
Due to their key assets being in high demand, CEO Rob Benadie has insisted on release clauses on some contracts just as was the case with Junior Mendieta, Ashley Du Preez and Mthethwa.
Mamelodi Sundowns triggered the buy-out to clinch the Mendieta deal, while Chiefs went the same route for both Du Preez and Mthethwa. But Soccer Laduma has been led to believe that Rayners does not fall in that category, which means a fee would have to be negotiated rather than the forward being bought by simply paying the amount set for his release.
Rayners rejoined Stellies in a last-minute deal during the January transfer window last season after he'd struggled for game-time under SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt – a move that also prohibited him from facing Matsatsantsa until the end of the 2022/23 campaign as part of the sale agreement.
The player had joined the Tshwane giants as a free agent in July 2020.
