Mamelodi Sundowns are believed to be close to extending the contract of their midfielder, potentially keeping him at the club until June 2026, the Siya crew has been informed.
Insiders close to the Brazilians have indicated that Sphelele Mkhulise is set for a one-year contract extension with an additional one-year option, as his current contract ends in June 2025.

Initially, there were concerns about whether Mkhulise would agree to the new terms, as recently reported by Soccer Laduma's newspaper.
However, Siya sources added that the KwaZulu-Natal-born Sundowns academy graduate appears poised to be on board with the latest negotiations.
"His current contract, which he renewed in 2023 for two years, is coming to an end in June 2025 but the club believes they still need him and that's why they are believed to be offering him another one year," said the Siya source.
"That's means if all goes well and they agree on the new deal, Mkhulise would still be at the club until June 2026. Yes, there were doubts before but things are looking positive now for both parties and a deal is likely," the source added.

A second insider stated that the proposed contract includes a straightforward one-year term and a one-year option.
"Yes, the one-year is a straight forward one-year deal but then they have put in a one-year option which means it could run until June 2027. But, you know, the option is mainly done by the club. It's to make them safe in case they will still need your services after the initial contract expires. It's like a bargaining power for the club. So, yes, it's a one-year plus another one-year option that the team has proposed or offered Sphelele (Mkhulise)," the second insider stated.
Soccer Laduma contacted Sundowns for official comment but the club had not responded by the time this report was published.
