Insider: Latest On Mudau's Sundowns Future

Insider: Latest On Mudau's Sundowns Future

There has been a lot of talk about Mamelodi Sundowns and Khuliso Mudau's future as interest has been growing in the defender's services, and close sources have hinted on what could be expected in the coming weeks.

Mudau comes from a successful FIFA international break with Bafana Bafana where he was the talk of the town with his inspiring performances.

The right-back started in both matches against Uganda and South Sudan as South Africa collected four out of six points in their quest to qualify for the next Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

The 29-year-old is expected to play a big role for the Brazilians as they will be competing to advance in the CAF Champions League against Mbabane Swallows, with the first leg of their second preliminary round fixture set for this weekend.

Mudau started in all three matches in the MTN8 although the Chloorkop outfit lost to Stellenbosch FC after their two-legged semi-final tie.

With Mudau having attracted interest from clubs around the continent and in Europe, Downs are keen to rope him in on a new contract as he remains an important member of the squad under coach Manqoba Mngqithi, sources have indicated.

"Khuliso Mudau remains an important member of the Sundowns' squad and the club has bigger plans for him. It isn't surprising that there has been interest in his services, because he is a quality player and a national asset," said the source.

"As part of the plans for the club, there is a plan to extend the player's stay. He has done so well since joining the club in 2020 and he remains an important member of the group and in the plans for the club's success going forward," the source said.

When Mudau joined Sundowns almost four years ago from Black Leopards, he signed a five-year deal.

Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club, where Mudau's former coach Rulani Mokwena is in charge, is one of the clubs understood to be interested in the Musina-born player.
