Kenyan Giants Chasing Bartlett?

Kenyan Giants Chasing Bartlett?

Kenyan football giants Gor Mahia FC are believed to be interested in the services of former Bafana Bafana striker, Shaun Bartlett, the Siya crew has been informed.

Insiders close to the situation have indicated that the Nairobi team rates Bartlett highly, though nothing has been finalised yet.

The sources added that Gor Mahia management are looking for an experienced South African coach and were convinced by what they saw in Bartlett.

"Gor Mahia have fired their coach and they were looking at South African coach Shaun Bartlett. I think they have been following his progress and they believe he could be the one to change their fortunes. They know his history as a player as well as a coach," said the Siya source.

"It's not like they have already closed the deal. No. But he is on top of their shopping list. They want to make sure that they sign him to improve the team this season. You know Gor Mahia are a big team. It's the Kaizer Chiefs of Kenya and where they are now on the log doesn't sit well with management and the board. That's why they are looking at bringing in Mr Bartlett. He is their first choice," the source added.

Gor Mahia are currently in 12th position in the Kenyan Premier League after six games this season so far, with two wins, two draws, and two defeats, totaling eight points. They recently parted ways with their Brazilian coach Leonardo Neiva due to the slow start to the campaign.

Meanwhile, South Africa's second all-time top goal scorer, Bartlett, last coached Cape Town Spurs, whom he had led to promotion in the 2022/23 season. However, things didn't work out for him in the Premier League, and he was eventually let go early. He is currently not attached to any club.

Soccer Laduma contacted Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier, but he was not ready to comment at the time of publishing.

As the Kenyan club looks to turn their season around, the potential appointment of Bartlett as head coach could bring on the leadership they need. Fans will be eager to see if Bartlett takes on this new challenge and how it impacts the team's performance.
