Iqraam Rayners could find himself back in Gauteng sooner than he expected if news reaching the Siya crew's desk is anything to go by. This publication has been informed that Kaizer Chiefs have renewed their interest in the hard-running forward after he surprisingly hit a purple patch once back at his familiar surroundings at Stellenbosch FC.
The Soweto giants displayed their admiration of the player a year ago, but a loan move to SuperSport United saw the once-buzzing attacker losing his sparkle and they also seemed to lose interest.
However, going back to the Winelands appeared to have revived the burly player's appetite for the game, so much so that Amakhosi are understood to have renewed their interest. The club displayed their intention to strengthen the squad in order to mount a serious challenge for honours by sending Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr down to Stellenbosch.
It does not sit well with the Naturena-based outfit's faithful that a team that used to average three trophies a season has gone barren for eight years and the intention is to regain their pride and collect some silverware in the current campaign.
The mandate, therefore, is for the son of the owner to tie down Mthethwa before the transfer window slams shut on Friday, as well as to try and bring in Rayners too. The rationale behind bringing in the striker is that maybe he could rekindle his once-deadly combination with Ashley Du Preez while both were at Stellies, but the Steve Barkerled side will not want to lose both of their star players in the same transfer window… so one or even both deals may not happen in the current transfer window.
