According to Siya sources at Naturena, the month of January is expected to be a frantic one for Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr in an attempt to round off some targets and make a decision on contracts.
The Glamour Boys signed 10 players at the beginning of the current season and the hierarchy has always emphasized that the door is open for more additions to beef up a team now led by Cavin Johnson.
Soccer Laduma understands the future of goalkeeper Brandon Petersen is expected to be a point of discussion next month. The shot-stopper will be in a position to put pen to paper on a pre-contract elsewhere with effect from January 1 as per the FIFA rules on a player whose initial agreement comes to an end at the end of the season.
Chiefs have not made any announcements on Petersen, but the Siya crew had previously reported that the former Bidvest Wits No.1 enjoyed support internally despite costly errors that have led to him losing his regular spot.
Motaung is then also expected to turn his attention to two experienced and influential members of the squad in Keagan Dolly and Itumeleng Khune as they too are approaching the end of their contracts.
Amakhosi had announced a two-year option when Dolly joined them on a free transfer in 2021, but that is only valid if there is a prior agreement on the figures for the extension.
The Soweto giants are also understood to be in the market for a striker because Jasond Gonzalez has so far proved a flop.
