Chiefs' Plan To Strengthen The Right-Back Position

Chiefs' Plan To Strengthen The Right-Back Position

Following a recommendation and request from coach Nasreddine Nabi to prioritise signing a new striker in the January transfer window, Kaizer Chiefs are therefore set to promote a promising young talent elsewhere in the squad.

This strategy is to make sure they don't have to sign another defender for the first team, and to rather focus on their attack.

Siya sources at Naturena have indicated that with only two primary right-backs, the club is believed to be planning to elevate Sfiso Timba from the DDC team to provide additional cover for Reeve Frosler and Dillan Solomons.

An insider explained that, among all positions, the right-back spot is the only one with limited depth, prompting the idea to bring Timba up to the senior team as backup.

"The club has promoted youngsters in other departments and now they feel that Sfiso (Timba) could fit well in that right back position. You know there are two main right backs in Reeve Frosler and Dillan Solomons and that's why they want Timba to be their backup in that position and that is why he is set for promotion to the senior team," the insider stated.

A second Siya source mentioned that while the teenager will continue playing for the DDC team upon their return in January, he will be expected to train full-time with the senior team.

"They just want to make sure that he keeps his match fitness while playing with the DDC side but will be training with the senior team but they have belief in him that he could be the right replacement for the two senior players. You know the senior team is working hand in hand with DDC coach Vela Khumalo in promoting these youngsters and that's why you are seeing most of them in the first team now," the second source stated.

Timba was previously a regular member of the South Africa Under-17 team, representing the country in various international tournaments. Attempts to reach Chiefs for comment were unsuccessful at the time of publishing this story.

By promoting Timba, Amakhosi continue to demonstrate their commitment to developing young talent and ensuring team depth. As the club looks ahead to strengthening their line-up further, integrating promising players from their youth development system remains a core strategy for securing long-term success.
