News reaching the Siya crew is that Jethren Barr has recently been trying his luck in the Republic of Ireland. The 27-year-old parted ways with Northen Irish side Portadown at the end of the last season after they suffered relegation and is determined to stay overseas.
He has been on trial with Irish giants Shamrock Rovers, Soccer Laduma has learnt, and is hoping to get feedback from the club soon or find a new home in the near future. The former Bidvest Wits net minder spent two seasons with Portadown. Initially, he signed a one-year contract with them, but the side rewarded him with a three-year deal after he impressed in his first campaign.
During his time at Portadown, he was named Player of the Season, underlining the massive impact he made. He, however, could not help the club to starve off the dreaded drop and, being not too keen on the idea of playing his football in the second tier of Northern Irish football, he chose to leave his contract ran out.
"I am currently on trial at a club in the Republic of Ireland. I am hoping everything can go well for me, otherwise I must carry on looking. I am not sure what's going to happen yet," Barr told this publication.
The Durban-born star is expecting to receive feedback from the Hoops, as Rovers are affectionately known, soon.
