The Siya crew has been given more insight into Kaizer Chiefs' decision to let go of winger Kgaogelo Sekgota…The former Swallows FC player has signed with Stellenbosch FC, parting ways with Amakhosi after spending two seasons at Naturena.
He still had one year left on his deal there, but the Soweto giants were comfortable to let him go for a few reasons. Soccer Laduma understands that while the 26-year-old was determined to fight for his place in the team, he and his camp were informed that he was unlikely to get many opportunities to prove himself at the Glamour Boys. With the club bringing in new attacking players this season, the prospect of Sekgota getting more minutes in the starting line-up under Molefi Ntseki were rather bleak.
According to information received by this publication, Stellies had been monitoring the progress of Sekgota for some time and Steve Barker made it clear that he would like to have the speed merchant on board for the current campaign, as revealed by a source close to the proceedings.
Last season, the dreadlocked star made 29 appearances in all competitions, most of which came in the first half of the season, as he struggled to get much game-time in the second period of the campaign Arthur Zwane.
He has already made an appearance for his new side since the start of the season, before Wednesday evening's fixture against Polokwane City, a clear sign of his new lease on life in the Western Cape.
